A Long Rambling Post

We got 10 more chickens today (we only have two left from the 20 we got awhile back:( ), so now we have an even dozen. These new ones should start laying in about a month or so, so that's cool. But, it wasn't the coolest thing today, at least, not for me.
The coolest thing, was that when we pulled up to the lady's house to get the chickens, I saw a huge dog with a shaggy white coat with a few brownish spots, it's tail curled up over it's back, a huge bear-like head, and double dew-claws (yes, I noticed all of that in like, 10 seconds). Now, that may or may not mean anything to you, but I happen to know exactly what type of dog has those characteristics. I also happen to want one of those dogs very badly. It was a Great Pyrenees, or Pyrenean mountain dog.
These awesome dogs were bred to be fierce dogs of war, and I'm sure they were, but in times of peace, they were left out in the mountains to guard the sheep and goats. Since then, Great Pyrenees have been used to guard all kinds of livestock, all around the world.
Anyways, this lady had one. So, I start petting it, and I see another one come around the corner. But this one is all-white, and he was even bigger, he happened to be the first one's son. As we talk with the lady, she says that somebody wanted the dog to guard their goats, but this one wanted to be around people, so they gave it away for free(what were they thinking?!?!?!).
At first, the lady didn't know anything at all about the breed, but since she has had it, she hasn't had anything kill any of her chickens.
After awhile the dog had a litter of 7 puppies, gave 6 away and kept one for herself. The one that she kept is a male, and he's only one year old and he absolutely HUGE!!! And he hasn't even gotten his long coat yet!! (we asked if she wanted to sell him, but she didn't:( )
So this lady went from not knowing anything about these dogs, to telling us that she would "always have one" on her farm and that they're "worth their weight in gold".

I'm thinking that this is what we need to keep things from killing our chickens...
We asked her to give us a call if she hears of anybody wanting to get rid of one(which, sadly, happens a lot because they're awfully cute little puppies, then they turn into huge dogs...).

I really rambled on a lot there.... Bye!!

The thing is, where would you keep it? No room in the house, and you wouldn't want another poor doggie on a chain :(

The lady said since she doesn't have a fence around their whole land, she just kept it in the backyard for a few days and fed it some hot dogs. And when she let it out, it just stayed around(who wouldn't stay for good food like hot dogs? ick).
But we don't exactly have a fenced-in backyard, so I don't know how we'll do it...

shock collar?? But, then it'd be too far from da chickens...
if somehow the chickens were in the fence with the goats...

Invisible fences don't work very well with pyrenees...
Dad is thinking about putting a new fence around everything, so we could get a few cows. The problem is, dad wants the goats to be with the cows, and he wants the cows to be able to graze everywhere, but we can't have the goats by the fruit trees...
I think we should fence everything off, but put gates between all of the fields. That way we can make the open area as big as we want to(depending on the time of year), and still be able to have all animals with each other most of the time.

Personally I never have 2 Anti-Virus programs installed at the same time. They seem to have a knack for totally screwing each other up. They like to detect each other as a virus signature and tend to blow each other up. ~Yiffy MSE
